What communities are underserved?

There are many definitions and characteristics used to describe and identify underserved populations. We consider underserved and marginalized populations to include communities who experience discrimination of any kind and encounter barriers (e.g., racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, economic, cultural, and/or linguistic) to accessing public health and health care goods and services.

Our eligibility requirements are an attempt to identify underserved individuals most in need for sponsored counseling services. We acknowledge that these four characteristics are not a comprehensive list of all characteristics of underserved populations.
